Course Overview: Open Registration

I’m excited to announce my new mini-course, Starry Eyed. This is a watercolor class to teach you how to create dreamy eyes for your portraits. We will learn how to draw the eye with graphite, paint with watercolor, and lastly finish with colored pencils.

Whenever I feel lost or stuck creatively, I will draw eye studies to spark my creativity. This class is made to help you relax and create in a peaceful setting. I will be sharing my favorite ways to draw and paint the eye. You will learn how to shade and add contrast for a dreamy look.

What to expect in the course…

This class isn’t about making the perfect eye, it’s about experimenting with your supplies and pushing your imagination. I paintings that don’t turn out well but I always learn something from them. If not, it’s a warm-up for something better.

Who is this course for? Beginner and intermediate artists.

What will you learn? We will learn how to draw the eye, build layers with watercolor, and finish with colored pencils.

What supplies do I need?

  • Watercolor paints of your choice - I like to use my Prima Tropicals palette or Kuretake watercolor set.

  • Watercolor paper - I like to switch between hot and cold-pressed papers. I like the Canson XL mixed media paper and the Strathmore mixed media journal.

  • Watercolor paint brushes - my go-to are the round #8 & #14

  • Heat gun (optional)

  • Your favorite colored pencils - I have a random selection of Primsacolor Premier, Faber-Castell Polychromos, and Jane Davenport pencils

  • I also like to light a candle when I paint and play spa/relaxing music.

In 2011, watercolor faces was something new to me. I loved the medium but didn’t know how to get the look I wanted. I want to encourage you to just give it a try. We can explore this process together.

About me (your instructor)

static1.squarespace-1.jpg

My name is Danielle Mack and I live and work in the Raleigh, NC area. I love drawing faces and have fun coming up with new and different people to create.

Once you have the basics down, there is nothing that can stop you.

For a long time, I didn’t think my drawings were good enough but the longer I drew the more confidence I had in myself.

I hope the same for you!

I look forward to seeing you in class.

Blessings 🖤 Danielle
