Hello & Welcome

The Art Nest is a safe place to learn and grow.  If you need help drawing faces for your art journal, watercolor paintings or mixed media projects then you are in the right place!

Each month I will add a new free lesson based on your requests and feedback.  I just figured it would be easier to keep them all in one place.  So, you can call this your creative nest - I hope to help you spread your wings!  It's corny but fit's the theme lol!

▻ Consistent practice is the biggest thing that has helped me improve my drawings.  I want to encourage you to make time for drawing and sketching so you can grow and become more confident.

▻ I'm open for any suggestions for next months class.  Scroll down, enjoy the latest lesson and let me know how I can help!

QUICK UPDATE: September was a pretty busy month for me! I’m teaching in two different workshop in 2019, so I have a lot going on. I plan to start filming and posting again for the nest this weekend, so expect to see some new videos coming soon. I’m teaching in Wanderlust 2019 & Let’s Face it 2019 and I wanted to talk about them a bit more here…

Wanderlust 2019

In Wanderlust, I will be teaching a class called, The Golden Forest, where we will create a traveler and the world around her. I feel like every time I paint, I’m going on a journey. Don’t you?

I hope you feel the same way. It’s like we are on a new adventure. And then when you are finishing up a painting it’s like getting to the final destination.

Each week we will be traveling together. You will be able to go on journeys with other artists and add some of the lessons you’ve learned into your own style. Click below to learn more…

Let’s Face It 2019

I love drawing faces because I get to draw someone who exists in a different world. Maybe I’m trying to find someone I can identify with.

I’m really an introverted person. I feel like when I make faces I’m creating a group of people who are like me. You know what I mean?

These are my people - I would be friends with her! It doesn’t matter if she has fairy wings or elf ears. This my homegirl!

When you join a class like Let’s Face it 2019 you get a chance to create your people. Click below to learn more…

If you are part of my Patreon, we will explore full lessons, including full drawings. Click here to learn more...

July Drawing lesson: Collaged Beauties

In this lesson, we will fill up our page with faces and try to keep them all different.  Feel free to look at reference photos but don't be too hard on yourself and put some of your own style into each face.

Today, we will practice drawing in 3/4 view.  This can be tricky but once you set up the angle of the face you will do just fine.  Let's draw a princess together.

April: 5-Day face drawing challenge

Are you ready for 5 days of drawing the face?  Click below to get started on day 1.  Each day we will focus on just one feature and practice to build upon the previous lesson.  Let's get started...

March Drawing Lesson: march winds

Want to add a bit of movement to your drawing?  I like to use hair, clothing, and jewelry to help show that the person is in motion.  If you tend to draw the same face over and over this will also help create a different story.
